What do you do when you feel used?

The other night I had this picture where I had given a friend my beautiful guitar (which recently I have in the natural) and they took it and then you go to see them and they wont come out and see you but they give you the old worn out dusty guitar case back but through their daughter?

To me this was a picture that I had given my best to someone and they turned around and gave me the rubbish back and not through them but through someone else.  This has happened many times to me where I have given my heart and then I hear through someone else something from that person but that person never talks to me.

What do we do with this when it happens to you?  Where you feel used, where you have given everything and then got nothing in return or if you have it has been rubbish?

It is a very painful process and too often when that happens we shut ourselves up and protect our heart in the future so we don't get used or hurt again.  This is our natural response to this sort of pain but that is not the love in which we see Jesus displaying.

To me Jesus is the ultimate example for us to follow.  For me He is the one who understands this sort of pain and rejection.  And He is the one to whom I look as to see what I do.  The word says to protect your heart for it is the wellspring of Life but so many of us I believe see this in a way that is actually not the way I believe Jesus is wanting us to protect our hearts.

Jesus entrusted himself with the one who is just - the Father.  He entrusted his heart to the Father.  The pain he experienced through rejection, through misunderstanding did not stop him from continuing to love and continuing to give to those around him, even when he knew their heart toward him, even when he knew they would betray him, he still gave willingly no matter what it cost him.  That is the call for us as Christians to keep giving, to keep loving, to keep sacrificing even at the cost entrusting your heart with Him who truly knows your pain and trusting him to heal your heart.  To keep our heart soft towards everyone around us.  And we cannot do that without surrendering our pain to Him who knows our heart.  The rejection we suffer is not actually ours to hold onto, it is Jesus' as we are no longer our own and so we need to give him all the rejection, all the pain and not hold onto it just as we need to give him all the glory when things are going well.  It is not us people are rejecting, it is Jesus in us.

So I want to encourage you when people hurt you, when they use you, when you feel misunderstood please take it to Jesus and give it all to him so He can come in and heal you and so your hurt can be turned into amazing grace without bounds which we have all received.  Jesus said at the cross, Father forgive them for they do not know what they do.  We too didn't know what we have done to Jesus and continue to do on a daily basis and yet He forgives us and still gives to us and we don't even see it.  This past weekend Jesus opened my eyes to yet another revelation of where I had been judging someone and in so judging did not see them as Jesus sees them and so I condemn them without even realising it and when that happens and your eyes are opened you remember once again the grace you have been given towards yourself that it enables you to give grace to those around who perhaps you don't feel deserve it.

Who changed my soup?

Has anyone ever read the book "Who moved my cheese?"  If not, a really good little book to read that will challenge the way you think when things shift and the decisions we make when a shift occurs.  While this blog is a little like that book except it is "Who changed my soup?"

I had a dream last night and in this dream I saw four churches in a fun competition with each other making dishes of food for eating.  I was making a big pot of soup but I had forgotten to put the salt in.  The competition thinking I would have put salt in already added a whole another cup of salt to our soup behind our backs.  When we had realised we had to adjust our soup and add things because it was way too salty.  We had to add food that we would not have naturally added and we had no idea what it would turn out like.  We were having to create something that was out of the ordinary.  But because they had done that, we had ended up making something very creative and tastier and more original than it would normally have been and our church won the competition.

You could have many interpretations to this dream but the thing that spoke to me was of the scripture in Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

I believe there are many people at the moment going through trials and things are not turning out how they intended or saw things happening.  A bit like the soup I was making and the competition coming and adding stuff to the soup in order for it to go wrong.  But because of what the competition did, it pushed us to find other ways to make something that would work and in the end actually enhanced what was produced.  Gods promises in the word all come with a hope and a future no matter what circumstance or situation that you find yourself in.  He says we will have many trials but he will deliver us from them all.  I know that some of the dreams and visions that we have, we often have only one way of seeing them and how you expect them to be or to go, but sometimes we need things to come along that actually lead us in a direction that we had never thought of or that we would not normally go but actually it ends up bringing about something that is way better than the original dream or vision that we saw.
God knows the best he has for us.  We think we know what we see but actually God has something better and unless sometimes unplanned ingredients get added we will never see the bigger picture that He has for us.

I know for ourselves and those who come along to our gatherings that there is change in the wind, that in order to accommodate what is coming then we need to re-evaluate the way things are done now.  We need to move with the Holy Spirit and with what He is doing in order to keep going from glory to glory in the Lord but that change is not always easy.  It will mean a shift in the way it is now and we all like the intimate way it is, but if I am going for something bigger in the Lord then we need to make way for it.  Jim and I are going for revival and so therefore things may need to change to accommodate what that may look like.

So for yourselves personally I want to encourage you to rejoice in your circumstance and look for the new ideas that He may want to bring about that actually will mean something better in the long run, way better than you dreamed, thought or imagined.  He truly does know the best he has for us.

Run in such a way as to win the prize. 1 Cor 9:24-27

A couple of nights ago had a dream and in this dream I saw myself running on the road and going around the block and looking at houses, some of them old and run down.  Then the second time I went out I saw myself running down the road again and I saw some christian friends that I know gathered in a party type gathering, and I found myself crossing over the street moving on from the party and I continued down the road with a sense of not wanting to go back.

Several things spoke to me in this dream.
One; that I was looking at old and run down houses as I ran.
Two; that the second time I went out I crossed the road from my friends who were gathered and continued on running.

Firstly just like our physical houses, we don't let them get rundown and if we have maintenance to do, we get on to it before it becomes too big and it is costly to maintain and keep a house in good repair but we do it because it is necessary. So too our spiritual houses, we need to look after our spirit, we may  need to do upkeep, a bit of renovation work and protect our property from the weather conditions or from whatever may cause damage, perhaps rats getting in a hole and we need to block the hole so they can't come in and it may cost us in getting things sorted in such a way where our spiritual house is in good condition and well maintained and not run down and falling apart.

Secondly in our lives we are going to have to make decisions and perhaps avoid those things or let those people go in our lives that hold us in a place or don't encourage us on and continue to run the race that we are called to.  Sometimes we need to make decisions that in the long run will benefit, but in the short term may mean a sacrifice that is costly and perhaps at the loss of friends.  We need to know what we are aiming for in life because when you know what your yes is, then you know what your no is.  Find out what your 'yes' is, what it is that you are aiming at.

I had a choice when running whether to continue on the side of the road I was on, or go into the party but I choose to avoid it and run on the other side of the road and this is where I want to encourage you.  Run your life that you avoid the things that would be pitfalls to you and lead you down a path that perhaps is not what the Lord has called you to.  It may be what He has called them to, but your path may be different.

Hebrew 12 speaks straight to this in such a way it is so powerful and I have put the whole verses here although a bit of a long read because it is so good and there is so much in it.
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.  And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons;
"My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son."
Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons.  For what son is not disciplined by his father?  If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons.  Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it.  How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live!  Our fathers disciplines us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness.  No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.  Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it."

Although there is a cost to our decisions either way, good or bad, the decision we make towards Christ, towards his righteousness in our lives, towards the callings on our lives, will only lead to life, not only for us, but also to those around us.  It will not only be valuable in keeping our spiritual houses in great condition for the long haul but also there will be an inheritance for your family that will remain.   For me in this dream I had to move away from christian friends and go on the other side of the road and that hurt me a great deal but I had to let them go and leave them to live their lives in the Lord.  Sometimes the path you are called to run is very lonely and you leave behind those gathered onto a solitary journey but one that the Lord is with you in encouraging you to keep going.  He is on the sideline cheering you on as you run.

1 Cor 9-24-27  "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize?  Run in such a way as to get the prize."  Lets not be a people that get distracted by all sorts of things along the way but keep our focus on where we are heading and decide today to perhaps avoid or move away from those things that would cause damage and choose to run into your future, run into those things the Lord has for you even at the cost of perhaps your friends, your family, your job.

Are you ready and available?

Last night I had a couple of dreams and both of them were pointing to a lack of not being ready.  One was all these people turned up at my house and I was busying running around after them that I didn't even have time to get dressed, I was still in my pyjamas.   The other was we were going to see someone but before going I needed to get something to eat and go to the toilet.

I felt that in both of these short dreams I needed to be prepared, needed to be ready and I believe this is something the Lord is doing at the moment, especially with me.  I am finding myself 'de-cluttering' around the house, getting things ready and organised, putting boundaries back in place with time, just generally getting things sorted out and I feel the urgency in needing to do this.  As I look at my life and the way the Lord uses me, I often do prophetically what is going on in the spirit and so after having these dreams believe we are coming into a season that is going to be busy and we are needing to be a people who is ready to run.  A people who if a heap of people turned up at your house, you would be ready and organised for them and not found still in your pyjamas in the spiritual sense not the physical.  A people that if someone called you to go and visit them, you would be ready to go at the drop of a hat and not have all the excuses of busyness not to go.

There are several things the Lord is speaking to Jim and myself at the moment both of which we are praying about and not sure on the next step into these things but he just keeps reminding me that "he will take us there" and I just have to believe that what He says he will do, He will do.  Although I cannot see the way into the next thing or the reason as to why I feel to be getting so organised and ready for what I don't see the way ahead of me, there is still this need to be ready.  Like Noah who believed to build the boat yet had not seen rain before.

We are to do what we believe, we are to be a people who live what they believe.  You can always tell what people believe by how they live.  Whether we die still not seeing what we believe is irrelevant as we are a people called to live by faith and so by faith I believe the Lord is saying, get ready, be prepared and so in response to that I have to search my life and see if there are things that need to change or in order to be available and ready.

So the question comes - "How do I need to be prepared?"  For everyone this is different depending on what God is saying to you.  And as I said earlier the Lord has been speaking to me about 'de-cluttering' my life, about getting things like accounts etc in order, like getting physically fit perhaps and I know for me and how the Lord uses me this is an issue but one I need encouragement in.  Perhaps putting boundaries in with people so you protect your time and especially time with the Lord because I believe this will be one of the most important as busyness comes things like your time with the Lord seem to take a backward step, yet this is the most important thing that actually needs the most time set aside.  Perhaps for some its getting a passport ready and up to date.

So I encourage you to ask the questions - how do I need to be prepared for what is coming?  What is it I need to do to be the best I can be for what you are bringing?  Knowing that He will help you to achieve what it is that He is asking you to do.  I know this is definitely for me, but hopefully it may be for some of you too, a resetting of priorities so that we can be available for what the Lord wants to do.

2 Chronicles 20 The Fear of a King

Yesterday I listened to a wonderful message from the Bethel weekly sermons on the Creative power of Thanksgiving. It was so good and something I talked a little about on Wednesday about giving thanks in all circumstances and how that changes our circumstances.

These are some of my thoughts as I searched the scriptures he brought;
He talked from 2 Chron 20 about how Jehosphophat (King) feared the armies that were coming against him. Here was a king who was afraid. That gave me great encouragement right there, if a King can be afraid, then it's okay too if I am. I know for myself I am often afraid of things that I see coming and I don't know how to handle it. Neither did Jehosophophat and so he called all the people together and sought the Lord.

First position in our place of fear is to seek the Lord.  Verse 12 "For we have no power against the great multitude that is coming against us, nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon you." So often we don't know what to do but we need to turn our eyes upon Him. As we turn our eyes on Jesus our focus changes and we remember how big our God is and our small our problem is. We get things into perspective as usually the problem has become greater than God.

V15 "Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude for the battle is not yours but Gods" Point two is its not your battle but Gods.
V17 " You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord who is with you." The word here is to position yourselves and so I wonder what it means to position yourself?
V20 "Believe in the Lord your God and you shall be established, believe His prophets and you shall prosper". For me the position is to "believe in our God". But also there is the 'stand still'. We often want to jump in and do something about it but sometimes we just need to wait to allow God to work it through. As we stand still, as we believe that God can make a way through it, hope returns, as we look to Him and seek Him, he shows us the way through.

People, it doesn't matter if you are afraid, who of us isn't at times, but in that we need to change our focus and seek the Lord and believe and as it says in verse 30; "Then the realm of Jehosphophat was quiet, for his God gave him rest all around". There was a battle but it was won in the strength and strategy of the Lord, not in the fear and running around of man. God will give you rest and peace as we position ourselves and believe in Him and allow him to make the way.
If you listen to the message its great, a bit different, but what I have written here is what the Lord was showing me so well worth a listen.

Jesus - The Rock

Something I have keep seeing at the moment is Jesus as the Rock.  Something and someone in which cannot be moved no matter what comes against it.  There is just such a strength, a stability, a force to be reakoned with, an immovability and it is encouraging me that no matter what is going on in my world there is strength in knowing that Jesus is my rock.
2 Sam 22:2 says "The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer.  The God of my strength in whom I trust.  My shield and the horn of my salvation.  My stronghold and my refuge.....v47  The Lord lives!  Blessed be my Rock!  Let God be exalted, the Rock of my salvation."

Psalm 61:2 "When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.  For you have been a shelter for me.  A strong tower from the enemy.  I will abide in Your tabernacle forever.  I will trust in the shelter of Your wings."

I am thankful and reminded again that He is my strength and the one sure stable thing that never changes admist all the change around.  God is the same, yesterday, today and forever, He is higher than I, higher than my circumstance, higher than everything that is coming at me and that as I learn to trust him, he leads me by those still waters, the places of safety and refreshing, those places where I can feast in the midst of whatever is going on around me.

What you see on the outside is not necessarily what's going on in reality.

Last night I had several dreams, each of them outlining that was looked like was going on on the outside was not what was happening in reality.
One was a business that said it was doing something but it was actually a cover up for fraud.
Another was a marriage relationship that lived in the same house, but lived separate lives in separate bedrooms.
And the last was a house that was being sold and it looked all good until you got up on the roof and saw the brick work falling apart in places.

Each of the pictures God showed me all pointed to things looking good on the outside but in reality things were very different.
As a Christian we are called to be people of integrity, of truth - why, because it benefits us.  All things that God asks us to live is actually for our benefit rather than His as he wants us living in freedom and not fear.

I know it can be very difficult to live in truth sometimes especially if we can't make ends meet financially.  Or the marriage relationship we are having is going through difficulty.  How do we get out of the cycle in which you find yourself in?  We never want to find ourselves in these situations but things happen and that's where we find ourselves.  We can't go back, but how do we go forward?

For myself I have struggled in several areas and I find ultimately it comes from two things, a willingness to humble myself to others and ask for help and a lack of trust that there is a way through it.  Scripture says, the truth will set you free and truly it does, but in order for the truth to come we firstly need to acknowledge it and reveal the truth and that is the humbling process where we need to confess to someone the truth of our situations or our feelings.  The moment we actually share the truth with someone, the enemy no longer has the stronghold on your life that it had, allowing God to come in and others to help you work and walk through what it is.  The old saying that a problem shared is a problem halved and it is.  The enemy's stronghold comes as it keeps you in fear and bondage by holding onto it yourself.

Part of the reason why we don't share with others our struggles as we don't trust God in the outcome.  God is able to turn every bad situation into good.  God knows we struggle with trusting him and that is okay, just ask him for help in the area of your unbelief.  Even the disciples who walked with Jesus too struggled in this area.  There may be some things that need to be worked through but ultimately God works everything together for our good for those who believe.  Perhaps not the way we want to see it happening. And so no matter how mucky it might look, there is a way through.  We just have to allow for the process to work itself through.  God is able to do more than we think, ask or imagine.  He can turn that dark night to day.  There may be some consequences for our decisions but God will use that too as a part of your testimony that will bring hope to others.

So I want to encourage you, if you find yourself living a way in which truth is not a reality, ask for help, share your burdens with someone you trust that can help you.  And allow God to come and help you find a way through it.  He loves you and wants the best for you and the best is to living a life of freedom and truth and not of fear.

And please lets not be a people who judge those who are struggling in areas when they ask for help but rather be a people that help our brother/sister in need and help them come into freedom and joy because of the grace given to us in our time of need. :)  Blessings.

Protect the Aliens! Will you take a bullet for them?

Dear friends, last night I had a dream and in this dream I saw myself protecting Aliens from being shot and I took a bullet for them so they could escape.

As I woke up the scripture in 1 Peter 2:11 kept coming to me which talks of us as "aliens and strangers in the world" which we are and the more we stand for the things of God and His word, the more we will stand out as aliens from a foreign land that people just don't understand and want to harm in whatever way that may look like, whether that is with words, with judgement or whatever.

I saw myself protecting them and that is our call as a christian is to protect our brother or sister in Christ as we are part of the same family.  More often than not we actually see more hurt come from our brother and sister in Christ than from the world, but we are called to protect one another from harm.
In Exodus 22:21 it says "Do not mistreat an alien or oppress him, for you were aliens in Egypt."  We are called to grace, the same grace we have received we need to give to others.   Yesterday someone rang and apologised to me and I said to her at the time as she received grace from me, to give that grace to the person who does it to her, as we will be challenged to give that grace to others in some way.  We quickly forget the grace that has been given through Christ to us and as in Exodus they were reminded that they too were aliens in Egypt and they didn't like being mistreated or oppressed by the Egyptians and so don't do the same when you become free.

Back in 1 Peter 2 verse 16-21 it says "Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God.  Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honour the king.  Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.  For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God.  But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it?  But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.  To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps."

So I encourage you this morning to protect our brothers and sisters in Christ, from others and from ourselves as we can often hurt them by our actions and our words, recognising that the same grace we have received from God, we called to give to others.
